We all love a bit of foot tapping, hip-swinging, head bobbing music don’t we? Whether you’re into free form jazz, deep house or screamo rock – there are tunes out there that speak to you, aren’t there?
The Australian National Botanic Gardens, together with Friends of the Australian National Botanic Gardens are proud to bring you Summer Sounds Concert Series for 2016. Summer Sounds will provide you with a variety of performances ranging from gypsy jazz to kids rock, folk, indie and big band party sounds.
This time of year is known for its stifling heat and annoying flies, so luckily the concerts will be kicking off at 5.30pm, when the sun starts to go down and the flies bugger off to where ever they sleep at night (hang on, where do flies actually sleep at night?!). Presented over eight nights throughout January and the beginning of February, the likes of Amber Nichols, Lulu Swing a Manouche Justine Clarke, Big Boss Groove, Franklyn B Paverty,Young Monks, Annie & the Armadillos and Belle Whyte will be showcasing their talents to crowds that are expected to reach capacity – who knew Canberrans were such a music loving bunch.
The Australian National Botanic Gardens are a National icon and big drawcard of Canberra itself. Each summer the gardens come alive with washes of colour, music and food and really are the place to be if you are looking to relax “among the gumtrees, with lots of plum trees”… Although we can’t guarantee a sheep or two or a kangaroo, and it’s BYO rocking chair.
One can never head to a music event without enjoying some cold beverages and quality grub, so it’s a good thing there’ll Pizza2U, Berkshire Pork, Pure Gelato, Freshlyn Coffee and My Sweet Alice Menu sharing their flavours each of the nights. Visitors are also encouraged to bring their own picnic basket and blanket, so you can really settle down and enjoy your evening.
Summer Sounds Concert Series: January 16 – February 7, 2016
Each Saturday and Sunday, 5.30pm – 7.30pm
Entry fees: Concession $2 // Adults $5 // Under 17s Free
