For those who like their theatre with a touch of controversy we have the perfect performance. Now showing until November 23 at The Street Theatre is David Atfield’s Scandalous Boy.
Set in Egypt in 130AD, Scandalous Boy is rich with sex, intrigue, politics and even more sex.
Inspired by actual historic events, Scandalous Boy is the story of Antinous, a former male prostitute favoured by the occupying Roman army who eventually becomes the eromenos, or beloved, of the most powerful man in the world, The Roman Emperor Hadrian himself. As his hold on the Emperor grows, Antinous is showered with riches, fame but this is soon soured when Antinous realises that all that he has been offered will last as long as he remains young.
An Arch & Bruce Brown Foundation Playwright Award finalist, Scandalous Boy is a play of bold theatricality. Atfield brings Ancient Rome to life and reveals it to be a time not so dissimilar to today in a sexy, funny and moving theatrical experience you will never forget.
The production stars Nicholas Eadie as the Emperor Hadrian, joined by Ethan Gibson, James Hughes, Peter Robinson and Emma Strand.
Scandalous Boy, presented by David Atfield, is now showing at The Street Theatre until November 23.
