One of Australia’s greatest, yet most unassuming, painters Rick Amor will be the subject of a new exhibition, 21 Portraits, at the National Portrait Gallery here in Canberra, opening November 28 and running until February 15 in 2015.
Known for his stunning work on landscapes, Amor has also had a rather remarkable career as one of the most sought after painter of portraits in Australia. He’s painted the likes of author David Malouf and the poet Dorothy Porter, and in each of these lies the same brooding nature so often found in Amor’s landscape.
This collection of 21 paintings, drawings and prints has been carefully selected to indicate major elements of Amor’s work, evoking his professional commissions, his circle in Melbourne, his periods abroad, his stern self-analysis and his brooding visions of the natural and built environment.
A chance to see one of Australia’s finest painters, Rick Amor 21 Portraits is a must see exhibition this year.
Rick Amor’s 21 Portraits is showing at the National Portrait Gallery Canberra from November 28 until February 15, 2015. Entry is free.
