If the thought of Easter chocolate and slew of public holidays wasn’t enough to get you wet, then former Thirsty Merc frontman, Rai Thistlethwayte, performing live at Smiths Alternative next Tuesday, April 22 may just do the trick.

Personally, we’ve missed the spectacular brow game that Rai brought to the Australian music scene. They were almost as good as his ability to manhandle a guitar and belt out a soulful tune that would you forget all the bad things in the world.

Since going solo, Thistlethwayte moved to LA and began working under the moniker Sun Rai. Whatever we may think of the nickname (it’s cute) it seems to be working since he has gained himself a strong international fan-base and even had a track from his debut EP, ‘Pocket Music’, appear on one of favourite TV indulgences, House of Lies.

If you do happen to make it down to Smiths to see Rai live, maybe wish the man a happy birthday (it’s literally three days before on April 19) and shout him a beer for his efforts.

Rai Thistlethwayte will be performing live at Smiths Alternative on Tuesday, April 22.
