By Ashleigh Went.
A few months ago, I was scrolling through my Insta feed when my thumb stopped mid swipe – my eye had landed on a rather fetching blush-hued trench coat with gold details. I clicked through to Poshaaq’s profile and found a veritable smorgasbord of fashion treats: a pleated, layered leather miniskirt, a peach faux-suede playsuit, gorgeous satiny blouses, velvet blazers in ox blood and emerald green…
Turns out, the designer is local lady Anum Qazi. I caught up with her to find out more about Poshaaq and their stunning new collection:
Can you tell me a little about yourself – who are you and what inspired you to create Poshaaq?
I have a strong background in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising and have always pursued the field with great interest. Having completed my degree in Fashion Marketing from Raffles College of Design in Sydney, I had the pleasure of working for a number of reputable Fashion Houses such as Michael Kors, Giorgio Armani and Polo Ralph Lauren. Needless to say, this played a monumental role in me understanding the industry better and eventually launching my own brand.
Where is the name Poshaaq from?
POSHAAQ as a brand name originates from the scripts of a few subcontinental languages, the simple definition of which translates to ‘Apparel’.
How would you describe the ‘Poshaaq girl’?
Poshaaq designs are inspired by strong, independent and empowered women of our society. The brand resonates with the modern day, out-going and confident women.
The typical Poshaaq Girl exhibits a blend of bold and sophisticated taste that makes her edgy, yet classy.
If you could capture your AW16 collection in a single sentence, what would it be?
AW16 collection is about pieces that are bold and timeless with exquisite feel and texture.
