September 4 2016 is Father’s Day, and as the date draws closer you may find yourself pondering what exactly to give Dad this year to say thanks for putting up with you through the tantrums, breaking of curfews, drinking, balderdash and general hoodlum ways through the years…
Nope, just me? Anyway… here are some solid ideas for Dad’s gift this year:
Style it up
Dads don’t have the best reputation for getting it right when adorning the old dad bod, so a little help certainly doesn’t go astray. We’re pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to quality fashion for gents in Canberra, so hit up the experts at Braddon Tailors, MJ Bale, HUGO BOSS, Oxford or any of the men’s fashion stores in the Canberra Centre and surrounds for some on trend, age appropriate styling advice.
Mr Bond
If dad’s earned himself a little pampering, this is the perfect present. The ‘Mr Bond’ treatment at the QT Canberra Barber Shop involves a steaming hot towel to soften the beard, before applying a rich shaving cream using a luxe badger hairbrush. Then there’s a two-step traditional wet shave razor for the closest shave ever. Next comes the real relaxation – an eye masque is applied to help rehydrate dad’s face while he receives a hand or shoulder massage. It’s finished with a cold towel to close the pores, a spritz of aftershave and a final layer of moisturizer. Father’s Day sorted.

Caff Fiend
If your dad loves a we bit of coffee – don’t we all – there are plenty of gifts to choose from. If he’s got the right gear at home you could buy some gourmet coffee beans from the markets or one of the Canberra institutions like Lonsdale Street Roasters or ONA Coffee House. Some cafes even offer gift certificates so it might be worth checking in at his local to see if you can fund his caffeine addiction – otherwise consider a mug (a little novelty touch won’t go astray here – think moustaches or even the ol’ #1 DAD) or an accessory like an AeroPress.
Cycle City
Is your dad a bit of a MAMIL – middle aged man in lycra? It wouldn’t surprise me – Canberra is host to a swarm of this species. It’s a great hobby to have, not only for the health benefits but it also provides plenty of options when it comes to gifts! Visit a shop like The Cyclery on Lonsdale Street to get a new helmet, some fancy lycra, new lights or accessories or if you’re feeling particularly generous – perhaps a shiny new bike!
