How does spending five days listening and dancing to acoustic, blues, roots, bluegrass, world, Celtic, traditional, gypsy and country music sound? Sounds like a hoedown, shindig, dance and good ol’ fashioned party to us! That’s what goes down at the National Folk Festival – the five-day event that prides itself on being a multifaceted festival catering to a diverse range of people.
As well as music, the program includes dance, spoken word, film, circus and traditional crafts, truly making the National Folk Festival an event of entertainment that is designed to inspire and ignite passion and power in people. Over the five days, there will be over 200 acts that represent diverse styles of entertainment performing, so be prepared to check out things you’ve never seen before.
2016 will the 50th National Folk Festival. Over the years it’s spent time roving from state to state and has since found a permanent home in Canberra (where it’s become a much loved and favoured event every Easter).
The line-up is massive. Expect to hear the likes of solo guitarist Andy Salvanos whose music has been described as “the sound of the world”, and French cabaret, and samba heat experts Conchillia. There’ll also be the Canberra Swing Katz with their touch of vintage flavour, as well as Zumba World Dance, which would be a great way to start your day. Join their instructor Rosie for a morning workout that is guaranteed to give you a flying start to your day at the festival!
Of course, no festival is complete without food (glorious food) and flowing drinks, and we guarantee that there will be plenty of these on offer throughout the festival.
For those travelling interstate for the festival, there are a variety of accommodation types available such as On-site camping, Off-site camping, as well as various hotels. Speaking of, why not stay at QT?
Both individual day tickets, full package tickets are available – so you can visit for the day, or set up camp there.
National Folk Festival runs from March 24-28, 2016
