You may have heard, singer-songwriter extraordinaire and all-round awesome chick Missy Higgins has announced an extensive Australia wide tour starting in October. Dubbed ‘Oz’, the tour follows up the album of the same name that Higgins released earlier this year. A compilation of covers from some of Australia’s most iconic bands and artists (eg: The Angels, Slim Dusty, Something For Kate, Warumpi Band, Paul Kelly, The Drones), Oz was a personal exploration Higgins took across the Australian musical landscape. But it’s more than just music.

In the accompanying Oz book, Missy uses each of those recordings as the starting point for a sprawling series of essays; reflecting on life, love and how not to wear high heels. Oz, in its own way, is a how-to guide; a way of surviving in a modern world on the world’s biggest island. Explaining the OZ project Missy said, “I wanted to put together a group of wonderful Australian songs just as a different sort of challenge. I wanted to avoid all the obvious ones though because “Great Aussie Songbook” collections have kinda been done to death. All that mattered was whether I felt I could make the songs my own so the tracklisting ended up as a real mixed bag of lollies.”

This one-off tour is bound to be an extraordinary experience from one of Australia’s greatest musical talents.
