One of the most important days of the year is fast approaching, and it’s time to look after someone who did such a great job looking after you. What better way to treat mum than with a feast care of QT Canberra’s golden child and Executive Chef Josh Smith-Thirkell?
We took five with the man behind the grill to get the lowdown on Capitol Bar & Grill at Home’s Mother’s Day offering and his recommendation for celebrating the day with your leading lady.
First up, tell us how we can knock it out of the park this Mother’s Day?
Is it too much of a cliché if I say the way to mum’s heart is via her stomach? Ha! In all seriousness though, food brings people together. When it comes down to it, that’s what mum’s want more of – time together.Capitol Bar & Grill at Home ticks all our Mother’s Day favourite child boxes. What would you say is the highlight?
I’m glad! We wanted to create a hearty, memorable menu that catered to the entire family. Whether it’s everyone dining together or dropping in throughout the day, the offering will have mum feeling like the Queen she is. The highlight has to be the Tiramisu – it’s Italy’s most loved dessert and ours here at Capitol Bar & Grill. With layers of marsala-soaked sponge, creamy mascarpone and of course, that signature coffee shot, it’s a family favourite home run.We might need to add a couple more Tiramisu’s to our order… Now tell us about wine, what should mum be drinking?
On Mother’s Day the only thing mums should be lifting is a champagne filled flute so, for all orders of four people or more, we’re including a complimentary bottle of GH Mumm Rose. Our QT wine shop also stocks some of the best local winemakers in the district at really competitive price points. You can pick up your Mother’s Day feast and a great drop all at once.Since you’re lending your brain, we’d be crazy to walk away without at least one cooking hack. Give us your best.
Easy! Always have anchovies on hand. They’re a umami that go with everything, and I mean everything. You’ll thank me later.
