Le Noir – The Dark Side of Cirque

May 4, 2015  ·  2 min read

By Benjamen Judd

Starting May 6 and running until May 10, Le Noir-The Dark Side of Cirque will be dazzling audiences at the Canberra Theatre Centre.

Sensuality seems to be a key theme this month. Between X-Rated showing at the Canberra Museum and Gallery and Cirque’s Le Noir, Canberrans can expect a particularly physically exhilarating few weeks.

Le Noir brings together 24 of the world’s best performers, gymnasts, contortionists and daredevils, many of them formerly from the family of Cirque du Soleil, to create a fast-paced, often hilarious night of entertainment.

Directed and choreographed by Neil Dorward, Le Noir is a stunning three-act performance that tests the limits of human strength and endurance. Throughout the three parts( Blanc, Rouge and Noir) spectators are treated to increasingly complex and amazing manoeuvres ranging from aerial hoop routines, silks, to Gediminas Pavlovicius’s terrifying Rolla Bolla routine.

At the heart of Le Noir’s appeal is the deliberate intention of making the audience part of the entertainment, offering a 360-degree spectacular view of the stage – the excitement, and tension, is immediate as you find yourself totally immersed in the artistry.

Le Noir – The Dark Side of Cirque is showing at the Canberra Theatre Centre for five nights from May 6 until May 10.
