Whoever said that female comedians aren’t funny needs to take a good long hard look at his self (you know it was totally a bloke who said that) and then get himself to the Canberra Theatre Centre this May 7 to18, to see the one and only Kitty Flanagan.
Kitty stole our bitter cold hearts back in her Full Frontal days, playing an out-of-it Michael Jackson complete with a pair of gold painted cricketers shin guards. Since those days she has been a regular on some of the best in entertainment television including The Micallef Program, Good News Week, Spicks and Specks and even hosting – to unanimous praise – the annual Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2010. Girl is on fire.
Her latest work is a little out of the ordinary. Rather than giving you a collection of musings, Kitty is inviting the audience to sit and help her create material for her next show. That’s right – you will have the opportunity to have a hand in the dirty cultural laundry that one of the Australia’s best comedians brings out to air. Why would you want to pass this up? It will also give you the chance to see Kitty operating in a completely unscripted environment; a situation that we have often felt is where she is at her pointedly best.
Kitty Flanagan (and whiteboard) will be performing at the Canberra Theatre Centre from 7 to 18 May.
