Hot Day Activities

Jan 27, 2017  ·  3 min read

It’s going to be a scorcher this weekend, with temps hitting the mid-30’s and beyond. If you’re a cooler blooded soul or your air-con has unfortunately broken (as they are want to do as soon as it gets above 25 degrees) then read on! We have the perfect hot weather plan to keep you cool, calm and entertained this weekend.

Get cultural at a museum or gallery…
Ahh air-conditioning, what would we do without you? If you’re looking for an indoor activity that’s both cool AND cultural, look no further than one of the Capital’s many museums and galleries. This weekend is your last chance to catch the  A History of the World in 100 Objects exhibition at the National Museum of Australia. Over at the National Gallery of Australia, the Versailles- Treasures from the Palace exhibition has been a huge it. Hot tip: book the champagne package for a cheeky glass of Moet post-tour.

Take a dip at Manuka pool…
I’m a sucker for art deco architecture so you can imagine my delight at Manuka pool, Canberra’s very first, built way back in 1930. It combines a gorgeous building and grounds with the added bonus of being able to feel cold water on my baking limbs on a hot summer’s day! There is the 30m main pool for laps and general pool-time splashing about, with a toddler’s wading pool for the littlies. For the obligatory pool-day snacks, there is an on-site cafe so you can stay all day!

Enjoy a cool treat at Frugii…
On a sweltering afternoon, is there anything better than discovering an ice-creamery, brimming with treats of the frozen kind? Not when said establishment is Canberra’s mecca of dessert, Frugii Dessert Laboratory. And lab it is- these guys are true wizards at concocting delightful and often surprising ice-cream flavours such as truffle, bacon and this past Australia Day…Vegemite! Pop on down and see what the daily specials are- you are sure to find some old favourites or the adventurous might opt for something whacky! Never fear, even the Vegemite offering went down like a treat.

Enjoy cocktail hour at Lucky’s Speakeasy…
Picture this: It’s 5pm and after a day of swimming, hitting the galleries and eating copious amounts of ice-cream, a cool refreshing beverage of the alcoholic kind is calling your name. Your prayers have been answered at Lucky’s Speakeasy where the perfect G&T is on offer to quench your thirst. Think West Indies Gin from Margaret River, Jack Ruby tonic, Lemon juice, crushed cucumber and cucumber soda, garnished with a cucumber slice and quill of rosemary. We’ll have three, thanks!

It must be cocktail hour, right? #cocktails #canberrabars #qtlife #CBR
