Hatching an egg-cellent Easter break

Apr 8, 2019  ·  4 min read

It’s easier to stay sunny side up in the capital with Easter being particularly well placed over the ACT calendar this season. Canberrans can claim a ten-day break by taking three days off over the Easter and ANZAC day week. With this holiday carrot dangled in front of you, it would be silly not to take full advantage of all the bunny excitement!

Luckily, there’s an aBUNdance of events and fun experiences on offer in the city.

Musical Eggs – National Folk Festival

The weekend kicks off with the nation’s annual Folk Festival, an Easter staple in the capital for over 50 years. From Thursday to Monday you can enjoy traditional and contemporary folk life and high-end entertainment at Exhibition Park. See up to 200 acts representing folk styles such as acoustic, blues, roots, bluegrass, world, Celtic, traditional, gypsy and country. There’s also dance, spoken word, circus and traditional crafts on offer. The Festival site itself is home to a mix of food and beverage outlets, themed bars and markets stalls. With such a vibrant program there’s something for everyone to hop along to.

Historic Eggs – The Great Easter Egg Trail at MoAD

After a family activity for the weekend? The Great Easter Egg Trail ticks all the boxes. Hosted at the Museum of Australian Democracy, the egg trails will take you on a fascinating journey through the Old Parliament House. Different trails lead to exhibition and heritage spaces with games and activities also on offer. By following the clues and solving the riddle, participants will be met with a yummy chocolate prize at the end. Everybunny will have fun!

For those with a taste for the finer things, note that Enigma Fine Chocolates has opened up just in time. This is the first flagship store and is located in the Ori Buiding, Braddon. The shop will make a perfect outing for last-minute quality treats and bespoke local chocolate. We’re egg-static waiting to try some!

Caffeinated Eggs – ONA Coffee Easter Blend

Like your hot cross buns with a cup of coffee? Luckily the team from ONA Coffee have cracked open something special. It’s called the ‘Easter Egg’ and it’s a new coffee blend crafted by the ONA Coffee roasting team. The mix is created using single origin coffees from Africa, India and Papua New Guinea and boasts a sweet, milk chocolate flavour quality. Prepared with milk and it transforms into a sweet, caramel chocolate associated with a Creme Egg. To taste it for yourself head to either Highroad, The Cupping Room, ONA Manuka or ONA Coffee House.
