NAIDOC has just wrapped up but that doesn’t mean the celebration ends there. If you happen to be in Canberra, we highly recommend heading over to the National Museum of Australia to experience one of the greatest collections of bark painting on show in Australia.

The National Museum of Australia holds the largest collection of bark paintings in the world. Don’t miss your chance to see specially selected barks on display in this stunning exhibition, which celebrates the genius of Australia’s master bark artists.

Bark painting, as practised by Aboriginal artists for millennia, is one of the greatest traditions of world art. Yet it was only recognised as such late in the 20th century. This exhibition highlights the work of 40 master artists, who have carried one of the oldest continuing traditions of art known to humanity into the modern era.

This will be your last chance to see the collection in whole, as the exhibition wraps up on Sunday, July 20.

Tickets to see the collection start at $8, with family group tickets for $30.

Old Masters: Australia’s Great Bark Artists is now showing at the National Museum of Australia.
