Your Guide to Floriade NightFest

Sep 12, 2017  ·  3 min read

With Spring well and truly here, the capital is about to be covered from head to toe in colour with Floriade 2017 set to take over Commonwealth Park.

With over 1 million bulbs about to spring open, Floriade will officially open on September, Saturday 16 and wrap up on October, Sunday 15.

This is Floriade’s 30th year of bringing colour to the capital in Spring and they haven’t held back.

There are highlights of the colour festival, then there are the events that better not miss out on, like NightFest.

Running over the weekends of September 22 – 24 and September 29 – October 1, NightFest will be the place to be in the capital with a stack of entertainment for the whole family/share house/political party to enjoy, together, in unison.

We here at QT Canberra understand that with events like this, there are parts that shouldn’t be missed, so here are the top four highlights for NightFest at Floriade 2018:

Nazeem Hussain, The Stevenson Experience, Ivan Aristeguieta, Rebecca De Unamuno, Dane Simpson, Tripod, Dilruk Jayasinha, Laura Campbell and Bart Freebairn walk into a bar… The oldest one in the book. But seriously, this is the comedy lineup for the springtime festival and it’s been packed with a solid dose of stand-up talent. They have a rather large stage at NightFest, so head over with a group of your funniest friends for a whack of the old giggle stick.

Kav Temperley from Eskimo Joe and Bob Evans from Jebediah on the same bill… almost unheard of but NightFest will see them both take to the stage on alternate weekends. Along with The Lowlands, Azim Zain and His Lovely Bones and the Mixxtapes, just to mention a few, will be looking after all your musical entertainment.

Pop Up
As you make your way around the festival, you’ll run into a number of roving entertainers that’ll keep you glued to their every move. From sculptures to drumming circles and two giant fireflies, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for all the goings on while at NightFest.

Tasting Plate
When it comes to wine pairing, sometimes you just want to know what goes best while you’re on a chocolate binge… right? Well, step over to the team at The Tasting Plate as they walk you through a range of tastings and pairings with a strong focus on the cocoa block.
