Attention: a security fence has been erected around Commonwealth Park in Canberra. This may not seem symbolic to some, but to green-thumbs and flowers fanatics, this signals Floriade is on its way.

Floriade, Canberra’s floral mega-celebration, welcomes spring with the blossoming of over one million bulbs. That wasn’t a typo… over one million bulbs and buds will burst into a sea of technicolour petals causing more oohs and aahs than the Magic Mike XXL premier. Naked Channing Tatums aside, this month-long event offers night markets, live comedy, pop-up bars and food stalls, DJs, horticultural workshops, artistic displays, as well as the star of the show – the meticulously and beautifully arranged flowers. No wonder the event hosts more than 400,000 local, interstate and international visitors each year!

The theme of Floriade 2015 is Reflection, with this year’s garden beds being dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli.
