Venues & EventsIt’s no secret that Canberra’s craft beer scene has evolved considerably over the past few years, with more breweries popping up than you can wave a pint at. Canberra has undoubtedly forged its name in the craft beer scene, and we’re taking you on a tour of our personal favourites.
Wig & Pen
Llewellyn Hall, William Herbert Place, Acton
From humble beginnings in 1944, Wig & Pen has become one of the most iconic brewpubs in the capital. Nestled in the trendy suburb of Acton, this hidden beer wonderland is nothing short of a gem. An oldie but a goodie, Wig & Pen’s old world charm makes it the perfect spot for a Sunday sesh – best enjoyed when you have nowhere to be.
Bentspoke Brewing Co.
38 Mort Street, Braddon
Bentspoke Brewing Co. opened up shop in 2014 and has since become one of the highest regarded brewers in the capital. Head brewer Richard Watkins began his journey with fellow brewery Wig & Pen, before establishing the two-story brewpub in the heart of Canberra city. With 18 different craft beers on tap at one time, it’s safe to say Bentspoke Brewing Co. is the hub for all things craft beer. Their signature brews include ‘Crankshaft’ and ‘Barley Griffin’, and if you’re looking to grab a bite, they have a great menu to pair with your brew.
Did you know that late last year, Bentspoke Brewing Co. joined our QT mini bar collection, so you can live the #qtlife and enjoy the best of Canberra craft beer from the comfort of your room.
Brew Nation
1/102 Alinga Street, Canberra
Brew Nation is the new kid on the block; a modern take on the gastropub. Combining city chic with quality local brews, we were excited to hear that there is a new addition to the craft beer scene in our beloved capital. With a strong focus on local brews, you’ll find a variety of great Canberra brews on tap, including the likes of Pact Brewing Co., Capital Brewing Co., Bentspoke Brewing Co., and Zierholtz. If you’re looking for a quick nibble, they also serve cheese platters and pretzels for the peckish.
Capital Brewing Co.
3/1 Dairy Road, Fyshwick
Located in the up and coming industrial district of Fyshwick, Capital Brewing Co. has quickly become a hideaway haven for beer lovers. The brewery has been serving its signature Capital brews since early 2016 and has gained a huge following for its Capital core range, seasonal beers, collaborations, and taproom-only beers. Some of our favourites include the Evil Eye IPA and the Trail Pale Ale; just a few of the great beers on offer. The laid back all-inclusive vibe of the brewery means that it is perfect for families and even pets – there’s a non-alcoholic ‘dog beer’!
If you’re looking for a bite to eat you’re in luck because the brewery has collaborated with street food sensation Brodburger to bring you burgers and beers that are to die for.
