Contemporary Australian Drawing: 20 years of the Dobell Prize for Drawing

Apr 2, 2014  ·  1 min read

ANU Drill Hall Gallery

A slice of Australian art history celebrating the excellence of the contemporary drawing landscape, the ‘20 Years of the Dobell Prize’ exhibition will be displayed at ANU’s Drill Hall Gallery this month. Sir William Dobell (1899 – 1970) is an iconic ambassador for the Australian art scene and a celebrated graphic artist in his own right, whose estate has provided funding for the annual Dobell Prize for Drawing for the past 22 years. In 2012 the competition celebrated its 20th anniversary, and to commemorate this, the Art Gallery of New South Wales curated an exhibition of Dobell participants and winners that surveys the creativity and diversity of the talent that the competition draws – no pun intended!
