The end of February marks the change of season – it’s autumn in the capital and that means the leaves are a-changing and it’s the start of the hot air balloon season. It’s the Canberra Balloon Spectacular. And it’s time to get high.
If you’re a Canberra local, then you’re probably used to driving to work early in the A.M. and seeing a collection of hot air balloons floating high up above. You may have spotted the infamous Skywhale and it’s massive hanging mammaries – commissioned to mark the centenary of Canberra.
Each morning throughout the Canberra Balloon Spectacular, hot air balloons will be inflated on the lawns of Old Parliament House, against the very distinct backdrop of Canberra’s landmark buildings. From March 12 – 20, every morning there will be the opportunity for you to hop in one of these balloons (fingers crossed it’s the Skywhale) and cruise around town as the sun starts to rise.
