Three Exhibits to see this Weekend

Jul 4, 2017  ·  2 min read

As the Winter temps seem to be stuck below 10 degrees, you might be a smart little bear by staying indoors this season and just hibernating like you did last year.

Or you could fill your weekend with some damn fine art that finds itself travelling through the capital at the moment.

With so much artistic flair filling the capital, here are three pieces that you should get around this weekend:

Pipilotti Rist @ National Gallery of Australia
There are very few artists that make you feel the raw emotions that Pipilotti does. Dating back to the late 80’s Pipilotti has been creating large-scale audiovisual pieces that have a unique tone to the tale being told. The piece on display, Worry, invites attendees to lie down and fall into a meditative state as the soundscape begins to take over. Worry aims to take those contemporary art lovers on a sensual and sublime psychological trip, leaving you feeling like you just did 90 minutes of yoga with a long warm down.

Amy Campbell’s Unstable Ground @ Canberra Contemporary Art Space
This piece will fill your mind’s eye with noise until a point that everything is a little overloaded and you feel like your brain couldn’t take in anything more. It’s all chaos and it always has been. Amy Campell’s display of mixed medium collages aims to reflect the world outside and the turbulent nature that’s hard to escape from at times.

Kirstie Rea: The Land @ Canberra Museum + Gallery
Watching the glass art production personally, blows my mind. There’s something about the amount of work that goes into making a vase that really excites me, it’s a fine art form. Canberra local, Kirstie Rea is currently exhibiting a 20-year long showcase of her work. Rea plays with the ideas of urbanisation and the disconnection to the natural world, told through glass art.
