Once considered a just a fast food staple, burgers have been making one hell of a comeback. Burger joints are popping up from the foreshore through to the burbs and to be honest we’re getting pretty bloody spoilt for choice.
How do you know where to go to get your burger fix? Here’s our round up of Canberra’s best:
The Greasy – Grease Monkey
Now this is a burger to go apesh*t over. The grease monkeys in the kitchen know not to mess with perfection: they’ve kept it simple with a beef patty, lettuce, cheese, onion, pickles and added their own special relish and Greasy’s sauce. GET IN MY BELLY.
Our tip: order a side of fries and the mac ‘n’ cheese bites. Deep fried carb heaven #WinterBod
The Brodburger – Brodburger
Brodburger has earned its rightful place as a Canberra institution. Its namesake burger is everything you’d hope for and more: a 200 gram flame grilled beef patty, lettuce, tomato, Spanish onion, homemade aioli, tomato relish and your choice of cheese. Come at me Brod
Our tip: get the blue cheese for a deep, rich and tangy flavour.
The Hale + Mary BurgerÂ
This burger has tater tots. Can it get any better than that? Yes, yes it can. There’s double beef, bacon, melted cheese, fresh pickles, a smoky tangy relish and aioli. You can thank us when you’ve recovered from your food coma.
Our tip: follow it up with the Picarones: house made South American pumpkin donuts with cinnamon cream cheese.
The Optimus Prime – Fox and Bow CaféÂ
If you like your burger with the lot, then this burger is your jam. It’s got a beef patty, beetroot, eggs, American cheese, bacon, gherkins, caramelised onions, BBQ sauce and aioli with crunchy, chunky cut chips. Allllrighty then.
Our tip: For some extra decadence, order the Farrer’O – a chocolate fudge thick shake topped with a Ferrero Roche.
The Capital Coney Island Burger – Capitol Bar & Grill
Our take on the classic is made with our house dry aged Cape Grim pasture fed T-bone, crisp onions, tomato, gruyere cheese, fresh frisée and our Coney Island pickle and sauce. Stop it!
Our tip: make a night of it – order our Ciambelle Bambino cinnamon sugar baby donuts and inject them with your own syringes of jam and vanilla custard.
