The art world can be weird sometimes. The Art Gallery of New South Wales recently held Nude, an exhibition that was best enjoyed sans clothing. Then down in Tasmania, if you were to adventure to the Museum of Modern Art or MONA, you’ll find many pieces that will wow you. If you find yourself in the need for the bathroom, head to the bottom floor, use the cubicle, third on the right. No spoilers.
The art world is weird. Wonderfully weird.
It’s important to celebrate the weirdness, for without the world would be a cold, dark place with a distinct lack of colour.
So it’s with a stupidly large, art stoked smile on my face as Art, Not Apart launches it’s 2017 line-up – stacked with all those good artsy type things, that you and I love.
Here is a quick roundup:
Shake It Up – Exhibition
To kick things off, March 17 will see Nishi Gallery play host to a range of local and interstate artists in a boundary-pushing showcase of works from across disciplines. All this is curated by Professor David Williams AM and Anna Trundle, with artists such as Sanne Koelemij, Josh Owen, Clare Jackson and Amy Campbell just to name a few. Totally FREE.Art, Not Apart @ NFSA
The National Film and Sound Archive will host the day’s activity of projections and live dance experiences. With exhibitions that use virtual reality and digital media to take you on a trip. The day will also be showing Monsieur Mayonnaise and Brett Whiteley’s bio flick Whiteley in the Arc Cinema. Both not to be missed.Suitcase Rummage
The name gives it all away. If you have a number of suitcases full of goodies or if you want to be a rummager, this is the place for you to find that little something you never knew you needed. We’re talking artwork, clothing, books and everything that makes up the category of second-hand stuffs. This will be happening down at the NewActon Precinct.A post shared by Art, Not Apart (@artnotapart) on
F-ck Art, Let’s Party
After a full day of art loving exhibiting, there is nothing like an art scene party. Like one that kicks off at 10 pm on March 18 and goes until the post-sunrise time of 7 am the next day. The party will be taking place in a warehouse in Fyshwick, with two stages that will be pumping the tunes out until the early hours. Tickets are just $25 and include a free bus trip to and from the venue. This is a good old party, where there’s no profit to be made and no external funding, just good vibes.Welcome to Art, Not Apart 2017 – a community of art lovers coming together to celebrate just that.
Art, Not Apart runs from March 17 – 18. More details HERE
