Art, Not Apart 2016

This is not your average art event. It’s a big ol’ arts festival encompassing exhibitions, performance art, music, installations, weird interventions, street food, cafes and a reach-for-the-lasers rave, as well as a few other bits and bobs that will raise intrigued eyebrows and produce impressed grins.

Art, Not Apart is an event that is designed to include all forms of art and expression. This event isn’t just about art – it’s about showcasing the way in which art has no boundaries, as well as profiling local artists, and displaying their inspiration behind art and freedom of expression.

The event will take place in the super trendy New Acton precinct, which already showcases a lot of local artist designs and general quirky-ness (a la QT Canberra). Last year at Art, Not Apart, we spotted a real life like Tony Abbott muppet puppet wandering around the alleyways and popping into the cafes around New Acton… I daresay puppet or not, ol’ Tone won’t be welcome back to Canberra anytime soon after calling a kick-on in the prime ministerial suite and smashing up the now infamous Italian marble table.

Where were we? Art, Not Apart this year will provide visitors with the opportunity to purchase artist works and installations that are on display at the festival, so you can bring home your own piece of individuality and finally replace that Bansky knock-off you’ve got hanging in the living room.

Throughout the festival, head over to the Westside, and experience Canberra’s newest shipping container art space and installation. Here you’ll find glorious street food, bars and other art installations. If heading over the bridge isn’t your thing, then stick around the New Acton Precinct, and take a wonder down the Art Walk.
