Weekends are the best times to spend in the Nation’s Capital. They’re pretty much the best times in any place, but you get my drift – Canberra on weekends is a massive thumbs up emoji. The majority of the pollies have scuttled into the caves and swamps from whence they came, and the cafes and attractions are a hustle and bustle with the tourists and locals alike. Saturdays are days for getting it done (it being fun stuff), so we’ve packed together a full schedule for you to own…
Mount Ainslie
Wake up early and take the 60 minute walk (or run) up Mount Ainslie to see some fantastic views of Canberra at sunrise. Alternatively if you’re not the morning exercise type, you can drive up there and experience the view. If you’re planning on walking, we recommend you park behind the War Memorial, down the bottom of the mountain.
Tip – Drive up in your active wear, then walk to the lookout panting and lifting your arms in the air victoriously – people will think you ran you and you might even get a cheer. 60% of the time, it works every time.
Kingston Foreshore
Refuel along the Kingston Foreshore at one of the many new cafes that have sprouted up recently. If it’s a glorious day weather-wise you’ll enjoy gazing out at Lake Burley Griffin as you sip your morning brew.
