What’s on at Te Papa Museum

Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is New Zealand’s national museum and art gallery… and you should definitely do yourself a favour and pop in.

Te Papa is a hoarder, but instead of being unhygienic and obsessed with junk, the museum is Attenborough-level interesting and overflowing with items of cultural and historical importance. It’s home to a huge amount of collections that range from Māori taonga (cultural treasures) to the world’s largest specimen of the mythical colossal squid.

We look at what’s on at Te Papa this summer.

Bug Lab
If buggin’ out is your cup of tea, then get along to the Bug Lab. Te Papa and Weta Workshop have put their antennas together to bring you a science exhibition “designed by bugs, for humans”. There’ll be spider talks, drone racing and a gory Valentine’s Day insect tour. It’s a bug’s life.
