For the last five years, the Wellington Night Markets have been dishing out the goods every Friday night at the Left Bank on Cuba Street; the birthplace of Wellington’s cultural scene. It became so damn popular that a Saturday night market was called for and takes over Lower Cuba Street with many of the same stall holders slinging their wears.
The markets are an interactive display of the sweet diversity of this city and how the community comes together to chow down on some fine food, take in some rad entertainment and a chance to check out the handmade goods on offer.
Not only popular with the tourists, the night markets are the perfect way to kick off the weekend at the Friday edition or cruise the Saturday setup as a part of a chilled weekend.
Now with so damn much going on, we’d like to help you out with this comprehensive foodie guide as told by Instagram:
Expect some hot talent treating you and your market clique to the musical treats. With new Zealand laying claim to some of the biggest names in the music world (think, The Finn Brothers, Lorde and Scribe…) this is a hot pot of up and coming talent.
If you like delicious middle eastern eats, wrapped up in an easy to eat format, then this be yo’ jam.
Do you like your churros crispy and covered in hot caramel sauce? Cool, so do we. These are not to missed and can be a starter, dessert or both.
Dumplings. As far as the eye can see and they’re all packed with flavour. The market lay claim to some of the best little dumps the world has ever seen. That’s from us.
Just watch. So tasty.
Then, lastly, you have waffles and ice cream. So f cking good.
Check out the Night Markets on Friday night at Left Bank on Cuba Street or Saturday night at Lower Cuba Street 5.00pm to 11.00pm
