This month is packed full of events in Wellington … Festivals here, there and everywhere, and it ain’t over!
Next, the ‘Sport of Kings’ is being welcomed back to Wellington for the second time since kicking off last year. This quicksmart version of Polo will keep you on your toes with continuous play.
Heineken Urban Polo is making its way through New Zealand, setting up some serious fun on Saturday afternoons in Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton and, the final stop, Wellington. If you’re about a few beers alongside banging beats, balls being smashed every which way and a touch of divot stomping, then grab your mates and head on down for some fun in the sun.
Now, folks, this is new school Polo. Fours team compete, each team has four players, 5-6 minute chukkas (periods) break up the game with a total of three games over the day. The day begins with what sounds like the most delightful event – a pony parade. Then, after each game, stretch your legs and head out onto the pitch to stomp the divots. Then when the games have finished and celebrated prizes given, it’s time to hit the dance floor and get yourselves a few more Heinys before it’s afterparty time.
As the sun sets, ‘Polo After Dark’ begins. Heineken Urban Polo’s Wellington after party will be hosted at QT Wellington’s very own Hot Sauce. Here you will get the chance to party with the players and like-minded party people while dancing to live DJs including Mac Mylo and Erika Amoore, who will be performing some sweet beats.
With the ladies dressed to the nines and lads looking suave, the final leg of the Heineken Urban Polo is going to be a biggie. So, fine people of Welly, Kelburn Park on Saturday 24th March awaits your attendance.
