Your Art. Our Rooms.

Did you hear the news? The Wellington region is the most creative in New Zealand according to the latest Infometrics Creativity Index. That’s pretty exciting to us and, to be honest, we can’t say we’re surprised.

QT Museum Wellington is stoked to call Welly home and be part of the creative class of this artistic city. We have put out a call for talent a couple of weeks ago to get your art on the walls of our new guest rooms, so get your A into G because the call for submissions ends this week. Here’s the 411 on the competition so far.

We’ve had awe and amazement with over 120 submissions to date in a variety of mediums from digital photography, oil painting, graffiti art, to 3D sculptor works. With aesthetics resonating with Brent Wong, Rosi Demant to Stu Robertson vibes so we are very excited.

We’ve been working with art initiative judge and notable street artist, Damin Radford-Scott known in the art realm as DSIDE, to take the plunge and make his mark on an existing hotel room. Drawing on his extensive artistic skills and experience, he’s leading the charge for other artists, to inspire, engage and challenge the community to answer the call for submissions. Used to working on a multitude of canvases from abandoned buildings to human bodies, we’re honoured to present a blank canvas for DSIDE’s first hotel room. DSIDE’s support reflects our pride, identity and commitment to fostering Kiwi talent.

“The collection in its lobby represents its importance and depth of involvement in this countries art realm, so I was honoured when asked to be involved,” says DSIDE. “This project is extending the collection into the bedroom so people can have a different encounter with them.”

DSIDE has joined our expert judging panel alongside management and Mark Amery. Mark has worked as an art critic, writer, editor and broadcaster for many years across the arts and media and soon, he can add expert judge to his repertoire.

QT Hotels & Resorts is one to consistently challenge the status quo. This hotel is a cultural playground built on a wonderfully eccentric, largely national art collection and celebrates creativity for all that stay and play at QT Museum Wellington, so be a part of our history.

Remember that submissions are closing this Friday, June 8 at 5pm with the winning designs announced on Friday, 22 June. Winners will have 6-8 weeks to complete their masterpieces with the new rooms set to be unveiled in early September this year.
