QT Wellington’s art collection is there for guests and friends to look at and enjoy and until you get take a look around yourself, here’s a taste of what you can expect to find.
Peter Stitchbury – Ella
Acrylic on canvasPeter Stitchbury is an Auckland-born artist renowned for his compelling portraits that mix the ideal and the particular. His works tackle the concept of modern beauty and are influenced by the world of fashion and the media. He’s painted the likes of Vimeo owner, Zach Klein, and UFO witness, Grace Askew.
This artwork of Lorde is a classic example of Stitchbury’s awkwardly attractive style. The kiwi superstar’s prim and proper demeanour is combined with a serious and even unemotional gaze. Walk around… she stares at you from wherever you’re standing.
Grant Hanna – I Dream of Fishes
Acrylic on canvasIn the past Grant Hanna has been a graphic designer, illustrator, art director and studio manager, but these days is a full-time painter… and a full-time surrealist at that.
Hanna dives deep into the world of surrealism, producing thought-provoking imagery that is both witty and trippy. His works depict subject matter from his homeland combined with that of a distant dream – scenes that are both beautifully realistic and absurdly fantastic.
This painting shows the Mona Lisa with a Maori coat, washing gloves and tropical fish floating around her paper bag head.
