NZ Fringe Festival Wellington

Wellington is showcasing the greatness that is the NZ Fringe Festival once again. And it’s happening right now!

This annual arts and performance fiesta has been running since 1990 and is showing a brilliant bevy of artists and performers in 700 different locations and venues across the city this year.

Let your senses be electrified by the terrific panoply of genius that is being held until the 24th of March.

Shows will sell out quickly so jump in and get in on the excitement! Some of our hot tips of the must-sees are below.

Elizabeth

This cabaret performance stars the stunning Lisa Crawley and plays out stories from late night gigs at random hotels around the globe. The sultry Elizabeth performs theatre and original indie-pop songs and these stories are being shared in QT Museum Wellington’s well-hidden, Billiards Room, as Elizabeth performs a sweet interpretation of ‘musical wallpaper’. Lisa has opened for music greats like John Mayer, Simply Red and has performed with the legend, Tim Finn.

The Electricka Zoo

The Electricka Zoo is an up and coming new live band that features a bass guitar and the electronica duo of Dave Black and The Digitator. These guys are bringing us that feel good combo of tunes we all love – Reggae, Jazz, EDM, and the oh-so-experimental post-punk avant-garde rock (I can’t imagine what that would sound like), to create their very own homegrown Kiwi sound. This crazy construction of different styles will make you want to dance, raise your arms and give your next Fri-yay the best way to start the weekend.

Royal Flush

The Dragkings of NZ Aotearoa are getting together for Royal Flush. They’ll make you laugh until your sides hurt and slip off the seat with tears of joy. As a comedy cabaret, this group of chuckle magnets with put on a show you’ll never forget and maybe not fully get, but either way you’re still going to have a blast.

The group has been together for almost 20 years and take on everything from ABBA, Ozzy, Miss Piggy and Kermit and, of course, everyday blokes. Whatever character they take on they will tickle every part of your funny bone, up to the point it’s working too hard and you feel like you’ve just run a marathon. Check them out at the Fringe Bar and show some love for your rainbow friends.

Whatever show you make it to or even if it’s just a stroll down Cuba Street, check out as much as you can and open your mind to the weird and wonderful for the next few weeks. Remember, you don’t often have so much to choose from so get in and find out something new about the amazing world of creativity.
