New Zealand Festival Has Arrived!

Let us rejoice because New Zealand Festival kicked off on Friday!

You know it’s a biggie when it’s dubbed “THE Festival” of New Zealand.

Over three culturally-charged weeks, the Festival descends on Wellington and fills it with amazing art, dance, music, culture and jaw-dropping spectacles to make you “ooo” and “aah”. There’s something for everyone, whether you want to feel like a kid again, need to entertain your own tiny humans or you want to feel as though you’re living in 2050; there’s something for everyone!

Here are a couple of our top picks for the New Zealand Festival. Regardless of what you choose to attend or even if you don’t see any shows, the city will be pumping. Just walking the streets will be entertainment in itself!

The Barber Shop Chronicles

After their huge sell-out debut in London, the Barbershop Chronicles found their way to lil ol’ Welly to keep you on the edge of your seat with banter and toe-tapping beats. Throwing down the real issues like mates, being a dad, daily political jargon and, of course, the all-important, all-consuming topic of football.

Grab tickets here and then cruise on down to the TSB Arena and check it out. You’ll be kicking yourself if you miss out on this exuberant funky musical, that The Independent describes as “Fast, funny, thoughtful, moving. An absolute cracker.”

Betroffenheit

This dark and brilliantly twisted performance pushes you down the mental rabbit hole of a person that is going through deep emotional turmoil following a personal tragedy. It will spin you around and spit you out leaving all of your senses fulfilled. The dance-theatre hybrid they have created has stunned audiences around the world. Be sure not to miss out on their final world tour. It’s a show not to miss and one that you will never forget or regret.

QT Museum Wellington is proud to be partnered with Betroffenheit for this year’s festival.

No matter where you end up in Wellington over the next three weeks, get amongst it all and soak in the genius, the fun and be inspired by what other culture-philes of the world have to offer.

Performances will be held in some of the best venues around the city including the St James Theatre, Opera House and Te Papa Tongarewa, so if you’re out around the centre, jump into something wondrous.
