With the last days of Winter now behind us and those subtle signs that Summer is on the way can only mean, Spring has arrived and with the longer days and the temperature on the increase its time for us to shake off the frost, back out into the City and enjoy the night life without having to layer up. With an array of dining and drinking options located throughout the city, here are our top five picks on where to enjoy a cocktail (or five) on a night out in the Capital.
Right on our doorstep is our very own Hot Sauce, start your evening in style with one of our signature cocktails. Between 4-6pm on Friday and Saturday you can throw caution to the wind with our 2-4-1 Cocktails at Happy Cat hour and enjoy with a mouth-watering food menu on offer. Trust us, the aroma from the kitchen alone will want you to order some tasty morsels to keep you buys for the rest of the evening.
If you’re not paying attention you can easily walk past Poquito Bar. This small but cosy bar perfect for whispering sweet nothings in dimly lit corners has a great Whiskey selection with many of its cocktails created around them – think different. One of our faves, is a Whiskey that has been infused with driftwood from a local beach the bartender grew up around.
Just off the main hustle and bustle of Courtenay Place and located in the same building as the Wellington Opera House, is where you will find Crumpet. Another cool little venue which offers a great variety of bevvies, the menus are old Rolodex’s so half the fun is whipping through the extensive list. Of course as the name suggests, there are some crumpets on the menu with some tasty toppings.
Burrowed under the iconic Embassy Cinema, which is apt for this cool little bar, The Black Sparrow. As you enter, you feel as if you’re heading into a modern day Hobbit hole, a little more lux than the Baggins’ surroundings, nonetheless cosy with a roaring fireplace and stack of board games.
Hawthorne Lounge is styled on the classic speakeasy. A perfect place to end your evening, we love taking a seat at the bar and watch the bartenders make magic, or snagging the corner couch and meeting like-minded people who are cocktail curious. With old school decor, complete with green library lamps, open 7 days a week from 5pm until late, there’s no excuses to visit for a nightcap.
