Western Australia is an expanse of space to be explored.
Perth is a superb city and is fabulous in its own right. There is certainly plenty to see and do but, if you are spending a significant amount of time in our amazing city in the West, there’s also stops outside of Perth that are a must.
There are some seriously fantastic day trips out of the city that should be on your bucket list. Western Australia is a massive state in terms of land mass but there’s plenty of gems to discover within an easy driving distance of the CBD.
Here we go, day road tripping again … YAY!
Fremantle
A port city so close to the city that it’s considered part of the greater Perth metropolitan area, Fremantle is delightful. Still a hub for shipping, Fremantle is also known for phenomenal beaches and a burgeoning art scene. The history alone is worth a visit to discover how the West was won (metaphorically).

Rottnest Island
Let’s start with one word. Quokka. Rottnest Island is a haven for beauty, delight and adorable furry creatures. If the crystal clear blue water and stark white sand are not enough, as mentioned, you can meet potentially the happiest animal on earth. They are so friendly and smiley that selfies with the Quokka is becoming a major Insta thang.

Margaret River
The Margaret River is a world-renowned spot known for producing some seriously terrific wines and, what some may not know, it’s the home of some great craft breweries. The breaks along the coast are also top notch for surfing and the perfect spot to watch whales during their migration. Between the vines and the sea, it’s pretty magical.

Beelu National Park
As part of what is known as the Parks of the Darling Range, Beelu National Park is a beauty. It is an ideal spot to explore by foot if you enjoy a bushwalk or by bike with a plethora of wildlife to spot, such as birds, frogs, possums, bush mice and more.

York
Located 97km from Perth, York is the oldest town in Western Australia. Nestled on the banks of the Avon River, enjoy an insight into the history and heritage of Western Australia. York was the first inland settlement of WA and still has many heritage-listed Victorian and Federation buildings to peruse.
