If those boots are made for walking, lace ’em up. Grab your partner’s hand like you’re in one of those cheesy and completely overdone Instagram photos and pull them out the door. It’s time to hit some of the best walks in Perth. Bring water and leave your phone at home … yeah, right.
Herdsman Lake
This trail can be walked or cycled and is well deserved sitting in the ‘best walks in Perth’ list, the Herdsman Lake Walk strolls around Perth’s largest inner-city wetland. The track runs along the lake’s edge and delivers stunning views across a diverse range of landscapes, like undisturbed wetlands, dense bushland and open grassy parks.
Start at the Heron Place car park at the south end of Lakeside Drive, walk anti-clockwise from there and keep an eye out for great crested grebes, blue-billed ducklings, willie wagtails and Australasian darters.
Distance: 8km loop
Lake Monger
This family-friendly trail is another one that is shared by cyclists and walkers, and also joggers and puppies. The picturesque Lake Monger Walk is only a few minutes from the city, it loops around the conservation wetland and is an excellent spot to catch a waterside sunrise or sunset.
Distance: 4km loop
Law Walk
Kings Park is one of the biggest city parks in the world, two thirds of which is bushland. It’s home to eight stunning trails, all of different lengths and landscapes, however, arguably the best is Law Walk.
Starting at the Karri Pavilion, the 45-minute urban bushland trail roller coasters along the ridge of the limestone escarpment to Dryandra Lookout and towards the city giving stunning views of the Swan River. The ups and downs make for a moderate cardio session too.
Distance: 2.5 km loop
The other trails in Kings Park are Memorials Walk, Botanic Garden Discovery Walk, Lotterywest Federation Walkway, DNA Tower Climb, Bushland Nature Trail, Kokoda Track and the Boodja Gnarning Walk.
