Curated and toured by the Workshops Rail Museum, I’ve Been Working on the Railwayis a photographic collection that chronicles the experience of Aboriginal, Torres Strait and South Sea Islanders during time spent working on the railroad during the 1950’s, 190’s and 1970’s. A period of rapid expansion for Australia’s infrastructure rail networks, the exhibition will explore the littler known personal stories of some of these men and offer insight into camp life, working conditions, hardships and the effect of separation from their land and families that these working men endured. A truly fascinating exhibition that offers a rare insight into a quieter corner of Australian history.
