Elioth Gruner: The Texture of Light

Elioth Gruner is an unsung hero of the Australian landscape-painting world. With his last collection review over 30 years ago, the Canberra Museum and Gallery has blown the dust off the Gruner body of work and selected 70 paintings for exhibition; from impressionist beachscapes and farmland views of the 1910s, to the subtle and distinctive modernist landscapes of the 1920s and 1930s. Gruner’s visual exploration of the ACT region is given particular focus in this exhibition, because he managed to capture the light, austerity and beauty of our region with such unique clarity.
