The Paw-fect Puppy Play-cation in Auckland

Feb 21, 2024  ·  5 min read

To all pet parents daydreaming of a vacation with your furry friend, this is your sign to pamper the pooch in your life and treat them to a night away from home. At QT we treat every pup as a VIP. Picture your pooch, lounging in the lap of luxury at our canine paradise, where the amenities aren’t just for the two-legged guests; oh no, our four-legged pals get the royal treatment too. From a chef-crafted dog menu that’ll have your pup drooling to a doggy mini bar stocked with treats, plush pet beds and designer dog bowls, there’s no shortage of pampering options.

Whether your dog prefers a leisurely stroll through our designer playground’s surroundings or a game of fetch in the nearby park, we’ve curated a list of pet-friendly possibilities so you and your fur friend can set off on a local adventure and have a doggone good time.

Strolls and sight-seeing:

Take a leisurely stroll from QT Auckland through Westhaven Marina, a beautiful, pet-friendly walk alongside the harbour. Marvel at all the boats and wag a tail at the other pups as you walk towards the cafes and restaurants under the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Visit the Auckland Botanic Gardens 20 minutes south of the city, the gardens have sunning views out over Auckland with a self-guided sculpture trail and yes, your pup can join you too… on a leash.

Do a loop from the hotel through to Silo Park and explore the Wynyard Quarter art trail , then make your way around The Viaduct, a bustling loop with beautiful vistas and plenty of shops and cafes to explore along the way.

Dining out:
Ackland has plenty of cafes permitting your dogs to join you in outdoor dining areas.

A short walk from QT Auckland, head to Wynyard Quarter where you’ll find seaside eateries like Wynyard Pavilion, North Park and Good George with plenty of outdoor space and pet-friendly dining options.

The Paw is a full pet-friendly bar and eatery nestled in Parnell, with a menu designed for both humans and pets, the pace is designed to share all the joys of dining out with your pups.

Hoppers Garden Bar, an uber-cool botanical space with craft beers on tap, shared plates and some of the best cocktails in town. What’s even better is all dogs are welcome, they even have pooch portraits in the bar and a dedicated Instagram page for all cute dog content.

Tucked in Grey Lynn, Ozone is worth the short drive from Auckland CBD for a delicious coffee, and an even better breakfast menu. The perfect place for dog petting, Ozone is a pet-friendly café with ample seating both indoors and out, and space for dogs to chill.

Who doesn’t love a wine bar, and even better when your #1 is allowed to join in the fun too. Beau is a pet-friendly wine bar in Ponsonby, with a delicious selection of food and wine with a side of canine cuteness.

You don’t need to venture far from your room to enjoy a little hospitality. Breakfast, to dinner, Esther’s Courtyard is perfect for you and your pup to enjoy a bite and a glass of vino. Word of warning, our team will demand a cuddle or two.

Go on a Waiheke Island adventure:

Doggos are welcome on Fullers ferry so why not do a day trip to the stunning wine-island?, Only a short 40 minuet boat ride across the harbour, head to The Island Grocer for your morning brew and puppy-chino then venture to The Heke. Well-behaved puppies on a leash can explore parts of the restaurant and gardens, while parents can indulge in delicious local food, brews and tasting flights. Charlie Farley’s is another Waiheke institution located in Onetangi with beautiful views out across the beach. The local watering hole is well known for serving locals, tourists and pups. If gin is your drop of choice, then Waiheke Distilling Co is the perfect stop, overlooking Cowes Bay, the distillery with their gig grassy front lawn welcomes pups on a lead too.

It’s not a Waiheke trip without a visit to a winery and a vino or two. Try Man O War with its large outdoor casual dining area, or pet-friendly cellar door Mudbrick.

Take your dog to the cinema:

Silo park are screening cult favourites outside throughout summer from 9pm with food trucks and DJ’s from 5pm. It doesn’t specifically say pets allowed… but it is outdoors and free to attend so we don’t see why not!

Well, that must have scratched the itch to have a play-cation with our fluffy pals. Pack your pup’s favourite toys and book a Pup Yeah! stay at ours.
