Hot on the track to a good time, we’re galloping into the Spring Racing season, and while the main event may take place in Melbourne, this doesn’t mean we can’t get amongst the action here in Auckland.
Here’s our guide to Spring Racing in Auckland:
Pick Your Race: Our Pick, Melbourne Cup
While there are a number of races throughout the year, including our very own, The Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington is world-renowned for its glamour, glitz and world-class racing. Prestige and style takes centre stage on Saturday 30th of October with Derby Day where punters dress only in black and white for the occasion. Next up we have the famous Lexus Melbourne Cup day on Tuesday November 1st, the hero event on everyone’s racing calendar, followed by Kennedy Oaks Day, also known as ‘Ladies Day’, and last in the run of the events is Stake Days, the family race day.
What to wear: Become best friends with colour
Don your finest. Spring Racing is all about getting bright, bubbly and dressing in head-to-toe tones of the season. Move over ‘New Zealand’ blacks, and pull out spring hues with a touch of glamour. Traditional Cup wear includes a fascinator for the lasses but a headband, bow or hat is also the new way to finish off your fit. For the lads, a sharp suit and a slick shirt will see you fit for the day.
Where to watch the race: Rooftop at QT
The stakes are high at QT this year, the hottest place to watch the Melbourne Cup. Mumm Champagne will be flowing with a Mediterranean fare at your table. The races will be live-streamed and resident DJ’s will kick in after the last winner is crowned to take the party well into the night. Book your spot here.
Take A Punt: Back a winner (or pick the best name)
Set your limit and take a punt at your share of the winnings. While there can be full strategy behind a pick of the lot and many experts giving tips and tricks, we’ll stick to picking ours based off our favorite horse names. GO WHYKICKAMOOCOW!
