Art Series: Venus Rising

Jul 7, 2023  ·  2 min read

Step through the lobby at QT Auckland you’ll discover a glowing art piece shining bright above the lush green velvet sofa, lighting up the entrance of Esther in an array of changing colours. This piece is Venus Rising by Max Patté , part of Max’s collection called ‘Lightworks, selected by QT’s design collaborator Nic Graham, as a statement piece for the hotel.

British born, Max resides in Wellington, creating art magic on our very own New Zealand shores. To date his art exploration spans sculpture, painting and light art.

Max’s artworks are all about light, colour, tone, saturation and warmth which he says all have a direct effect on our mood. He aims to change the space in which the work is viewed and alter the viewers’ relationship to that space, providing a multi-sensory experience with every piece. Max Patté’s practice is an exploration of the infinite qualities of light, utilising the technologies he has at his fingertips using an array of computer programs, iPad apps, CNC Milling, digital scanning and 3D printing.
