Art Series: Lava Glass

Nestled outside of Taupō is a creative wonderland where glass meets genius, and landscapes leap from nature into hand-blown masterpieces. Lava Glass is a renowned glassblowing studio, that showcases stunning glass artistry Lynden Over and Christine Robb.   

It’s art, science, and a little bit of magic all rolled into one. Wander through the gallery packed with glass art that captures the soul of New Zealand’s most dramatic landscapes—each piece popping with colour, style, and a sprinkle of “How did they do that?!”. And the pièce de résistance: the famous Lava Glass Sculpture Garden featuring over 600 glass sculptures that shimmer and shine in the sunlight, creating a visual feast for the senses. 

When QT collaborator and interior-designer Nic Graham was putting together his artistic visions for QT Auckland’s opening, he visited Lava Glass while on holiday in Taupō inspiring him to engage Lynden to craft bespoke pieces for the hotel. From the grand hotel lobby entrance feature piece to in-room lamp shades and drinking vessels, the talented team at Lava Glass have designed beautiful hand-blown glass masterpieces just for QT Auckland and guests to enjoy.
