Oenophiles rejoice! Your Queenstown wine-tinerary awaits. Sip pretty amongst the alpine vines and discover the best wineries our region has to offer, from famous Central Otago pinot noirs to flights of cheese-matched fancy in the Gibbston Valley. Round out your daytrip with an exquisite meal and you’ll be ready to return to your QT Dream bed, wine-loving hearts – and bellies, full.
First we journey through the Gibbston Valley – the highest and coolest subregion in Central Otago. At just five kilometres long and two kilometres wide, this pretty patch punches well above its weight when it comes to great grapes. Owing to lofty elevation and Otago’s famous schist rock-rich soil, Gibbston Valley typically produces acidic wines with big savoury flavours. Think mushroom-y pinots with rich notes of cherry and black pepper.
Mt Edward Winery
Bio Gro and certified organic winery, Mt Edward are self-confessed rulebreakers. With the ethos ‘grow your own way’, they craft experimental and minimal-intervention wines, each with plenty of character and uniqueness. We like the sound of that! Doesn’t hurt that their recent edition, a 2022 pét nat rosé, is utterly drinkable.

Peregrine Wines
Working with a number of conservation to trusts to protect the kārearea New Zealand Falcon, visiting Peregrine’s cellar door is a must-do for the environmentalist. The winery’s sprawling angled architecture is a nod to a falcon’s wing in flight. Veni, vidi, cenavi – come, see, taste. And do good by nature while you’re at it.
