Being a yogi in Bondi has become as common as being a surfer in Hawaii. Every second person walking down the street has a coffee in one hand and a yoga mat in the other. But when something like yoga is in such high demand, there becomes a massive inflow of resources; some much better than others.
If you think about what you are searching for by taking a yoga class before you start looking for a studio, it will definitely give you a good indication of where you should be heading. Is it a mental state you’re chasing? Or something more physical to keep you fit? Every studio has a completely different ethos so choosing between the many studios can be tough.
But what if you want something a little different? Something a little left of centre that combines yoga with the perfect sunset? Or having a laugh? Or yoga for a good cause?
Bondi Beach laughter Club holds Laughter Yoga every Saturday at the Bondi Pavilion. Leave all your worries at the door and let the laughter take control, because who doesn’t love to laugh? You will do laughter exercises, deep breathing techniques, rhythmic clapping and to finish the class some guided relaxation and meditation.
One Wave Yoga
One Wave is a non-profit organisation that raises awareness for mental health and if you follow our social media you will know we are big fans of what the boys do. Every Friday morning at 6 am they greet the new day by dressing in fluro, having a big ol’ hug and going surfing. But what most people don’t know is that they also do a yoga session before they jump in the surf. It’s a whole lot of fun and anyone is welcome. Get down there, have a chat about life and stretch it out in the downward dog.
Sunrise Yoga or Mediation
There is nothing more beautiful than a Bondi Sunrise, so why not make the most of that magical hour and take a Yoga class at Yoga by the Sea or a free mediation class? Yoga by the Sea is located on the Icebergs terrace; they do early morning classes looking over Bondi and out to the horizon all week. There is something so incredible about being elevated above Bondi Beach while doing your Vriksasana. If you’re more of a Zen kinda’ character then Thursday is your day. The Bondi Meditation Centre runs a sunrise group meditation every Thursday at South Bondi yoga platform and the best part about it, it’s FREE! Bring something comfy to sit on and look for the Reboot Camp sign!
