Whether you’re a Game of Thrones addict or not, there’s no denying that Winter is here.
But it’s only May, you’re saying … Winter’s not for another month … Well, when the difference between getting a sweat on and shivering your tits off is a cloud in front of the sun, you may as well call it Winter.
Daylight savings is gone for another year and with it, the treasured after work surf. The days are getting shorter, the sun’s rays are weaker and the morning wind-chill factor in Bondi is borderline Antarctic.
If you’re from anywhere in the North you probably think I’ve lost my marbles and I don’t know what cold is. Well, you’re probably right, but frankly, I don’t want to know – Bondi Beach at 10 degrees Celcius is as crisp as I can handle.
But it’s not all doom and gloom now that the cooler months have come knocking. It means the summer crowds are gone, there are big winter swells on the way, you can wrap yourself up in a big doona and you can finally wear that fancy coat that’s been sitting in your wardrobe for last nine months.

But rather than spend your Sunday slaving over a hot oven, you can sit back and enjoy the real deal right here at some of Bondi’s favourite spots. Here are our top picks for a helluva good meat and veg.
Down by the sand at Bondi’s funkiest beach club, The Roast isn’t just a Sunday thing – you can get it on your plate every Saturday as well. It’s different each week but you’re free to rock up anytime from 1pm and you will be sure to get a big juicy serving with plenty of vegies, gravy and all the trimmings for $25.
Tucked away on the corner of Curlewis St and Glenyr Ave is this cozy little spot that serves up a big leg of lamb. With a chilled atmosphere and a killer wine list, this is exactly where you want to wind down on a Sunday evening and let the 12-hour lamb lull you into a food coma. It’s $25 with a glass of wine chucked in.
The bustling local favourite that’s right on our doorstep at QT Bondi, Neighbourhood, puts on a little twist to an old classic – a half chook roast with peas, beans, roast pumpkin and Yorkshire pudding. The vegetarians aren’t left behind either with a cranberry and pistachio-laced nut roast on offer too for $20.
The new kid on the block, Public Bar, has been quick to establish itself in a big way on the Bondi scene and they don’t mess around when it comes to their Sunday roast. From the guys that deliver daily deliciousness at Da Orazio, the Italian-Australian fusion is brought to life on Campbell Parade. Garlic, Rosemary and slow roasted meat … it doesn’t get much better and is just $25.
