Sally Fitzgibbons – our Sal, Sal Fitz, Fitzy. However you want to address the surfing professional, it’s hard not to admire her for the passion and dedication she has to win that world title. 2016 may not have been her strongest year on tour, with a couple of second places being her best. To be honest though, Tyler Wright, the now World Champion, was on an absolute tear and would have been hard to stop.
Not taking anything away from Ms Fitz, she has had a super busy year. From becoming a Gold Coast property developer to joining the Wide World of Sports team as a host, it’s been a huge year. With the world tour heading to the final destination, in late November, Sally has had time to organise a little something, here at home. Sally is hosting one of the biggest woman’s surf competitions in Australia.
The Sydney International Women’s Pro has been given the Qualifying Series (QS) status by the governing body, the World Surf League, making this event a must win for many of the girls on tour, an opportunity to grab some extra points before the last event of the year.
With a role call of 94 of the best of the QS, the likes of Dimity Stoyle, Laura Enever and QT favourite, Nikki Van Dijk, rounding out the top seeds with Steph Gilmore, Tyler Wright and the legend herself, Our Sal.
Over the three-day festival, not only will the girls be shredding, joining them will be The Ironwoman Invitational, Shire Mile Run and Sydney Shire Ocean Swim. As well as all this, Sally will also host a whole range of fitness events, from morning yoga to the signature Train like Sally workshops. The festival is also having market stalls and a pop-up cinema, for more information, click HERE. The festival is looking at a constant 2ft swell on Saturday, with it building on Sunday, get down there!
The International Beach Festival runs from November 3-6
