Sometimes all you need is surf after a completely rubbish day. Just hanging out with friends and like-minded humans can be the best cure to being in a funk. With the dawn of spring upon us, and the first Thursday almost here, R U OK? Day is about to urge you to ask those around you R U Ok? The day is a reminder to check in with family and friends and make sure they’re doing well and if there is anything they want to talk about. The charity aims to break down any stigma surrounding mental health issues in the community.
When it comes to Sydney and in particular the Bondi community, there is nothing like that of the One Wave initiative. The team meet up every Friday morning just before sunrise, have chat, do some yoga and then hit the waves dressed in the anything that with a fluro tinge, creating a community get together now dubbed Fluro Friday. Started by Bondi locals, the idea is now recreated at numerous beaches up and down the east coast and even internationally. It serves as a place where you can ‘free the funk’ and surf with some new and old friends.
Now when these two great initiatives come together you get a positive community movement that you will most definitely want to be apart of. On Thursday September 8, One Wave and R U OK? will be hosting a paddle out at Bondi Beach. Once out in the big blue the paddlers will create a massive human R U OK? to remind people that it’s ok to talk about what’s going on. For all the information on the event, the official Facebook event is HERE. It kicks off at 06:30am, perfect time to get the day started and a great cause to get out of bed for.
R U OK? Day x One Wave Paddle Out is Thursday September 8.
Hahahaha this is what happens when the @thecolorrunaus team joins us for #FluroFriday 🌈 🌈🌈So much epic colour and laughs this morning. Thanks for coming down legends. When you’re going through a funk, sometimes it just feels good to drop everything and be a grom again. We have a OneWave crew running in the Color Run this Sunday 9am at Centennial Park Sydney. If anyone is keen to run/dance/walk with us send us a message and lets meet at the start. Yew! #freethefunk #thecolorrunaus // Thanks for the epic shot @theaustraliantraveller
