If having a wiggle to a house track is far more enticing to you than doing a class at the gym, then you’re in luck my boogie-inclined friend! There’s a dance craze that has hit Sydney and we are stoked it’s found a home in Bondi. Grab your wristbands, channel your inner Flashdance and read on.
No Lights No Lycra (or NLNL for you kids in the know) was started in ’09 in Melbourne by a pair of dance students who just couldn’t help the urge to shake it out. Now, in 2016, the phenomenon has swept Australia and the globe too, with people breaking it down in Paris, Helsinki, New York, Hong Kong and LA.
The rules of NLNL are simple;
- It is completely drug and alcohol free. Leave those gin and tonics at home and bring H2O
- No matter what age/gender/background/demographic you might be, you have every right to bring your dancing shoes along
- Technique doesn’t matter. If you are the one sitting down in da club judging people who are dancing, you can still come but leave that attitude at home… you have to join in on the fun. If you happen to be someone who throws their hands in the air like they just don’t care, then where have you been all my life? Get down there, now!
Mondays from 7.30pm in the Seagull Room in the Bondi Pavilion is where it’s at. A mere $7 is all it’ll cost you to dance away the stress from the week. Check them out on Facebook if your after more info, otherwise I’ll see you there next Monday! Maybe we’ll have a jive together, maybe we won’t, that is the magic of No Lights No Lycra…
No Lights No Lycra runs from 7:30-8:30pm each Monday.
