Disclaimer – this post has nothing to do with Pokémon Go. Pokè is so much better than that god-forsaken game.
Bondi and anyone who visits loves a good food fad. From fancy doughnuts to artisanal gelato and juices that are pressed cold, if it’s a winner, the Bondi public will show their love by organising a line outside the store and happily wait for their turn to throw an order in. Match the line with freshness in the food and something that takes a solid ‘Gram, and you have the recipe for a huge win in the eyes of the Bondi dining public.
Nathan Dalah is behind Fishbowl Pokè Bar, one of the newest spots in town and is serving something super fresh, cementing the weekend lines and popping on the ‘Gram #everythingwillbepoke
Just to recap on what Pokè is – the roots of the dish come from Hawaii and is like a deconstructed sushi roll in a bowl. Start with a choice of rice, glass noodles or cabbage add some nice big thick cuts of salmon, tuna, kingfish or tofu to set the protein and then you have a huge list of vegetables/condiments to top off the whole bowl. Throw in some dressings and finish it with the choice of toasted coconut or maybe some macadamias, and there you have a mad Pokè bowl… Is your mouth watering yet?
The flavours at Fishbowl are kind of endless, with the choice of BYOB (build your own bowl) or pick one of the winners on the board, we recommend The OG to start your Pokè affair off the right way and don’t skip on the avocado option, it just brings the dish together.
Fishbowl Pokè Bar is located on the ground floor of the Pacific Building, right underneath QT Bondi. The lines aren’t too long but if you have to wait, it’s totally worth it, trust me. You are left feeling full, cultured and ready to go for a surf… maybe wait an hour.
