Dion. By Respondek

words by ben stephens

Let me tell you a little tale. It comes in three parts. The first two parts concern themselves with living people. The third part is all about the collaboration of the first two parts.

Hooked? Good. Let’s begin.

PART ONE
Dion Agius (pronounced age-ess) grew up somewhere on the east coast of Tasmania. In his early teens, his family decided it was time to move to the Gold Coast, Queensland. A surfer from a young age, Dion quickly adapted to the Gold Coast lifestyle and his surfing quickly followed suit. Staying away from the World Surf League and focusing on hunting for the best waves on the planet. Today, Dion is arguably one of the world’s best free surfers.

PART TWO
John Respondek, or ‘Sponnas to his mates’ as his website bio reads, hails from the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales. As far as surf photography goes, Sponnas is up there with the best in the field. His work has been featured on the cover of every surf magazine that matters, while his collaborations with major brands secure’s that you’ve seen his work at some point. His close friendship with surfing’s royalty is what keeps his work above the noise.

PART THREE
John has spent the last five years documenting Dion. From Israel, Indonesia, Panama and Australia. This creates a 120-page look book featuring artwork from Ozzy Wright, a bunch of interviews and a couple of cameos from the elite. This is something you want to own.
