A Non-Drinking Bondi Winter Hit List

Bondi isn’t just firing in summer, it’s firing all year round. It’s just that your Bondi Summer hit list will differ to your Bondi Winter hit list. That is, it will be a little less surf and bake, and a little more eat, skate and meditate.

We look at what should be up the top of your Bondi Winter to-do list when cocktails aren’t on the menu.

Carbòn

One of the latest additions to the Bondi food scene is this wood-fired Mexican eatery from the team that brought us Taquiza. A blend of traditional South American barbecuing techniques and indigenous Mexican culinary elements, the share style menu is bursting with flavour, colour and texture.

Go to the toasty Carbòn on a cold winter’s night to stuff your face with their signature Make Your Own Tacos (M.Y.O.T.) feast.

Bondi Wash

Cold weather and dry winds make healthy skin worried. Bondi Wash offers a beautiful range of fragrant, natural Australian products for the home, body, baby and dog. Yep, even your doggo can look and smell fine with the help of non-toxic, biodegradable and plant-based products.

Japanese Cooking Class

Yoshiko Takeuchi has 20 years experience teaching Japanese basics, classics and ‘superfoods’ classes. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make sushi or healthy Japanese cuisine, surely a former student of Tetsuya himself, is the ideal teacher.

Free Meditation

The story goes, Shri Mataji set up Sahaja Yoga Meditation back in 1970 to promote mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing – for free. Her classes are run out of Mill Hill Community Centre in Bondi Junction every Monday from 11am to 12.30pm. And yes, they don’t cost a cent.

Bondi Ice Skating

Bondi Winter Magic is returning to Bondi Beach from 28 June – 29 July. It’s always a massive hit. Why? Partially for the novelty that you can ice skate a few metres from the sand. And the fact that it’s really fun surely doesn’t hurt either.

Bondi Bikkies

When it comes to Bondi winter warm ups, Bondi Bikkies have to be at the top of the list with a steaming cup of mulled wine.

Baked by former Tasmanian chef and trained nutritionist, Sarah Glover, these beachside biscuits are deliciousness done simply. You won’t find outrageous add-ons and gimmicks; just good quality ingredients. Glover’s cookies are mostly sold wholesale, although you can snag a cheeky couple at the bakery (45 Gould St.) on Wednesdays.

Go for a bike ride

Station-free bike sharing companies are a dime a dozen these days. Grab a pushie and go for a ride. It’s a healthy Bondi adventure and in Winter there’s no need to be worried about the Summer sweats.
