6 things to do this weekend

By Niall Roeder.

The weather mightn’t be the best at the moment, but that will not stop the people having fun. Not in this town. In a defiant stance against the winter grey, surfers will keep surfing, gym junkies will keep selfie’ing and we’ll all keep boozing and eating. You (winter) SHALL NOT PASS… into our fun zones. Bondi has heaps on this weekend, here are six options for you to check out…

classbunny: Garden in a Cup

Everyone is frothing about succulents. It’s understandable, they look sick and are a lot easier to keep alive than other temperamental shrubs. classbunny is running this workshop on not just keeping them alive, but keeping them looking glossy and healthy long term. You’ll also pot one and take it home.

Garden in a Cup is on July 10 in Paddington and costs $38.

Art on the Streets

Art on the Streets is an outdoor exhibit for the people. It gives emerging artists the chance to present their work outdoors in Bondi’s Roscoe Street Mall. You’ll be able to pick up original artworks from heaps of artists and photographers for as little as 30 clams. Punters are encouraged to “chalk up the streets” with your own pavement masterpiece.

Art on the Streets is on July 10, 10am – 3pm at Roscoe Street Mall.

Love Without Pain

Love, peace, happiness… no this isn’t a cult. This day course is all about approaching our love for our partner, family and friends from a fresh, new perspective. It’s for those striving to live a more harmonious and joyful life, which unless you’re a nutcase, is a good thing.

Love Without Pain is on July 10 in Surry Hills.

Perminerala

Perminerala is the striking combination of Waverley Studio Artist Sarah O’Sullivan’s ceramic art and the astounding detail of
Debbie Gallulo’s photography.

“O’Sullivan’s collection fossilises and preserves organic forms, highlighting their precious value. Gallulo’s photography enlivens the quiet of stone scapes by revealing dramatic vistas from international settings”.

Perminerala is on July 11 on Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bondi Beach.

Omega Ensemble – Beethoven’s Seventh

Beethoven’s seventh symphony is an undisputed masterpiece. It’s intoxicating, full of energy and was described by Wagner (famous German composer) as the “apotheosis of dance”. And ol’ Waggers knew his stuff.

Omega Ensemble play July 11 at Angel Place and costs $64-$94.

At Last – The Etta James Story

I dare you to put on At Last by Etta James and try not drunkenly sway in appreciation. You can’t do it. It’s timeless, it’s an absolute tune, and Etta James is one of the greatest singers of all time. This smash-hit show has been doing the rounds since 2013 and has played packed house after packed house.

The Etta James Story in on July 12 at Bennelong Point and costs $74-$119.
